About Bob

Bob Parker is from Christchurch. He grew up in the Christchurch suburbs of Heathcote Valley and Somerfield. He attended Christchurch South Intermediate and then went to Cashmere High School.

His Mum and Dad still live in Heathcote, as does Bob’s sister and her family. One of Bob’s three sons (from his first marriage) has returned to Christchurch with his family. Bob is enjoying being a granddad. Bob is married to Joanna Parker-Nicholls.

Bob’s first job in broadcasting was in radio Christchurch. He also had a successful career as a television presenter.

Returning to Christchurch in 1992, Bob moved to Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula. He was a member of the Community Board and in 2001 was elected Mayor of Banks Peninsula. He served two terms as Mayor. In 2006 the Banks Peninsula District amalgamates with the Christchurch City Council and Bob became the sole Banks Peninsula representative on the council.

In October 2007, Bob Parker successfully stood in the local government elections, for the Christchurch mayoralty, after the retirement of Garry Moore, receiving just over 46,000 votes - well ahead of his nearest rival.

Bob Parker has spent the past 20 years working in local government. He has the energy and experience to fulfil the vision of making Christchurch a world class city.
